After a week of bizarre dreams and restless nights, I have realized that I read way too much. Too much MSN, too much Tulsa World, too much CNN. My dreams have been invaded by the presidential race and the olympics. I have watched maybe 5 minutes of the olympics, but the banner across the msn homepage draws me in everytime I open IE. The next 20 minutes are spent reading up on medals and under - age athletes. As for the presidential campaign, I really try not to get to political, especially since I work for non - profit, where, due to our status with the IRS, we are not allowed to distribute in any way, shape, or form propaganda for or against public office candidates. This guideline, however, does not prevent our teachers and staff from distributing their opinions on our presidential candidates and what they may or may not have said. Here's where I'm going with this:
I had the worst hormonal week in five years. Pain and insomnia. My seven total hours of sleep last week included a dreamt - up debate between Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain. What??? Then, I spent the next five sleepless hours thinking about these prospective First Ladies and what they should and should not say to the press, at debates, etc. Again, WHAT??? I really couldn't tell you a thing about these women, besides the fact that many of my coworkers think one is a very elegant and mature woman and the other seems domineering. Nevermind the fact that they themselves have never met these women and don't have a clue about their agendas.
When I am coherent, I don't pretend to know a single thing about either. Why? Because it's not our place to discuss politics in a non - profit. Also, it has a lot to do with the fact that my career thus far has been in the non - profit sector and in previous organizations, we have been hyper - aware of our neutral stance. No distribution internally or externally. We can, however, tell our patrons and coworkers one thing:
Vote! Register to Vote! Exercise your right to Vote!
But don't tell me how to vote, how you're voting, or how you think everyone and their dog should vote for your personal favorite.
I need to lay off the news updates and spend more time on grant proposals. But it's time to call it a day and hit the grocery. Wal Mart, here I come!
