To Chicago or not to Chicago?

((Sigh))
So, we're seriously considering a big change that I am surprisingly at ease with, sight unseen. When John returned to USC, it was agreed by both sides that they would keep him in Tulsa for as long as possible. We love Tulsa and the comfort, family, and culture that comes with it, especially after two cringe - inducing years in Dallas, but now we find ourselves thinking more and more about what Chicago has to offer. Maybe it's the heat and humidity playing tricks with our minds, or maybe it's the recent promotion for John and my not - so - much of a $$ promotion as I had last year, which is the one downside of working for a non - profit. We checked up on the non - profit sector to see where the salaries are at, then we just happened to look within John's company to see if anything fit the bill.
Here's where it gets very "God has His plan for us" feel. In their PR department, they have a position in "Public Affairs", which handles non - profit relations, United Way campaigns, press releases, etc. Requirements include an English degree and 5 - 7 years non - profit experience. It's the best of both worlds; working with non - profits and corporate pay. For someone who has been with non - profit organizations since 2001 and has only seen a pay increase of $4,500, this is a prayer answered. I'm trying not to get too excited, as I have yet to travel to Chicago. But I am tagging along at the end of the month.

It's Race For The Cure time, which is why I posted this picture, taken several months ago when I parted (with great glee!) with about 10" of my hair. I had planned on going short for a while, but when I found out that my aunt had been diagnosed with breast cancer, I finally settled with donating my hair to Beautiful Lengths, a division of Pantene that accepts hair donations to make wigs for women and children battling cancer. So anyway, back to the Race. My aunt has been more of a fighter than I had ever expected. We have her oncologist to thank for that! She has been encouraging and empowering, so much so that my introverted aunt is wanting to round up the family and all associated to participate in the Race For The Cure, which I believe is scheduled for September. I registered last year, but slept through the morning of. :( So whether you're a runner or not, I encourage you to find a way to participate in this great event. We'll be forming a team for Aunt Sharon and I plan on running the timed 5k. I'll post a link to the team site as soon as we get it going!

  1. There you are! That's the friendly face I remember! Chicago sounds pretty exciting. I say go while you don't have kids...you can always come back.

I've enjoyed reading your blog and "getting to know you" again!
